Some tests

Posted using Mobypicture.com

Back months ago I tried installing Corel Painter 12 on my laptop, after having not used Corel Painter in years [though I used their WordPerfect (that came with my Dell desktop) as the last non-Apache OpenOffice sucked working with my custom dictionary]. I really cannot remember what settings I used for this Kaido Kio picture, but I liked how pigmented the brushes were. Anyway I've wanted to draw some things and thought I'd try installing it again (despite it being arduous in my zoomed-in resolution).

Here are a few tests with different programs, and I still prefer OpenCanvas 3.03e & MyPaint for faux watercolour, as they mix more realistically (when I have a wet colour and drag it into another still wet colour, I expect them to mix, and the bottom colour to follow what path I take the brush in). I don't like the amount of white in OC's watercolour brush though, which is why I work on Multiply layers.

Original, sketched quick in ArtRage 2.6:

The colours I used for the outfit are from my default Zinnian palette, the red & brownish being from his earrings.

I really disliked Krita. It saved the layered file I painted in as corrupted so I lost all that work. The developers removed all previous versions because they didn't want someone running it on Windows XP (despite it working on it). I couldn't figure-out how to use the eyedropper tool to select a colour from one image (my Zinnian palette) to use on the image I was colouring [ended-up pasting the palette as a Multiply layer and selecting from that in the corner]. And closing one file caused the whole program to close. I hate Windows 7's MS Paint, and have only used it a few times--I use the Paint XP program (especially since most of my MS Paint usage is to save ALT+Print Screen screenshots, and to edit pixels) instead! I have ArtRage 3 Studio Pro 3.5, but I've not tried much of it to see how it's for faux watercolour. I don't even have it installed on the laptop since the Windows reinstall, as I use ArtRage for pencil & marker sketching, and I much prefer the open workspace of 2.6 & how the canvas is set-up as a background in it. It's a shame 2.6 doesn't offer anything but acrylic/oil painting, as I ♥♥♥♥ how real most of their tools look.

When I 'watercolour' digitally, I usually take a traditional drawing or one with pencil in ArtRage 2.6, open it in OpenCanvas 3.03e, and paint over it using Multiply players & adjusting it's Watercolour tool. I usually then paste the finished image over a Multiply layer of a paper texture, usually also with a Multiply layer of the original sketch to make the lineart more pronounced.

I have an old version of PaintTools SAI I've not tried installing on the laptop, but if I do I'll add what I colour with it to here too. If I had more energy I'd print-off the lineart & paint it with physical watercolours too, to show a comparison--I just wish I still had my set of high pigment Grumbacher watercolours. The set I have now has a higher amount of white filler to it, and I dislike it. I don't do much traditional art now because of the difficulties with scanning the colour blue, which is a colour I often use a lot of. And now I have the whole hand issue too, but the fat tablet pen is easier to hold than pencils/pens.
Midna

Midna!Snake

I used my trackpad, and have a fever, so I didn't try as hard to be more accurate. Anyway, I missed Snake, but wanted to use Midna too for a Twitter user-picture. So I did another drawing over Snake, this time with Midna's crown/whatever it is (I'm kicking myself for not remembering the correct term).

3 Course Notebook Doodles

Posted using Mobypicture.com

I have a 240 page notebook that I've been using for all the courses I've taken this year. I am now using it for Discover Driving which I am retaking as I did it around 2005/2006 and some laws have changed [like the school zone one], and I would rather have the course again instead of cramming for the beginners' test with my old notes for the 5TH time. They aren't charging me full price as I was part paid for my driving last time, but didn't get to do much of it. Anyway! I've been drawing a bit in it. Mostly just in the margins [like this of Lorrie in bed with a healing dislocated shoulder in a sling after using her sword to cut-off Scathewick's head]; but I've left the last section [it's a 3 section/subject one] for fucking around in, unless I fill-up the other sections. So far it only has 3 doodles in said section ^^;

Today I drew a doodle of Zinnian wearing the outfit [excluding the wristwatch] I wore on Friday. Which had a t-shirt [Joe Fresh, $1.48 from the clearance rack] I bought because it was something my little Alexander would wear. And after reinstalling my scanner [which I used in August but must have deleted a file with System Restore for it] I scanned it and 2 other doodles. Then I coloured it.

And back in the spring [I misread the RAZR filename as in the autumn] I doodled a picture of Shahi from "Boy Princess" during my food handling course.

Lastly; I doodled the first ever picture of me with my 'new' haircut. This was around 3:00PM of a course I had been at since 8:45AM, when I was so tired and getting SO ANNOYED at the guy who sat next to me [we had to share the question books for the quizzes, and he'd fiddle with his 'phone (which an instructor had told us we weren't to use as practice for when driving), or talk to guy beside him instead of doing the answers. Then when I'd get annoyed from waiting and flip to the next page to do those questions myself, he'd take the book and huddle over it to catch-up on his answers (meaning I'd have to hurry to finish the questions near the end, or do them from memory). Every time he'd get his 'phone out of his pocket he'd hit my hip, elbow, or knee and he kept taking-up more and more of the corner of the table until I was sitting on the edge and had moved my notebook to my lap as I didn't even have that much space left on the table. (I'm going to go out of my way to avoid him for the next 3 sessions)].

Boy Blue

Hopkirk

I've been watching a lot of "Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased)" lately. It's about inquiry agent partners, where one (Hopkirk) is murdered, comes back to help solve it, and ends up stuck unable to cross back over. So he just goes about helping his partner (Randall) solve cases, having misadventures, and looking-out for his widow (Jeanie who is awesome). He is such an awkward ghost though. He tends to forget he has ghostly powers, and has at times watched a crime be committed that he could have stopped if he had. He really only can teleport (he can only walk through walls if he's got his eyes closed, and walking backwards), create a bit of wind (to blow things over or around), break glass, flicker lights, and has just started learning how to make things on tables vibrate slightly. Only Randall, mediums, hypnotised people, and one very drunk guy can see him. I love how capable Jeanie is (though a bit gullible with some things), and Jeff has made her basically his new partner after she inherited all of Marty's share in the business. I've only got about 5 more episodes left (the YouTube uploads I was watching have different episode numbers to the rip I'm watching now after a few episodes were missing, so I'm watching in a weird order). Hopkirk is so adorkable though XD! I love his flashbacks to times with Jeanie and on cases. Randall is pretty fantastic too, and has great style.

Quick Doodle For Zinnian's Birthday

August 15TH is the day I picked for Alexander's birthday all those years ago. Making him a Leo, and peridot his birthstone (lime green is his favourite colour anyway).

I am wearing my Three Doge Moon t-shirt today, so figured I might as well draw him in it.

[I had to reinstall my tablet, ArtRage, and what-not as I reinstalled Windows on my laptop. I haven't got my printers/scanner set-up yet, so the program I use for cropping isn't on yet]

"On Meeting An Inquiry Agent" -- Part # 3/? (unfinished)

I am posting what I had of the 3RD part typed because I'm not sure now if I will ever finish it. I prefer to type on my Nintendo 3DS, but I can't guarantee I will have the confidence & capacity for any more. I did make robin_cassius before LiveJournal's change though. I've also made Lorel a Tumblr (which is mostly just a Queue that posts once a day). And I temporaliy disabled comments on Lorel's account due to crushing anxiety. LJ.NET [ljnetdev] has stopped loading a list of Communities now, and though Semagic [ljwin32_sema] can't either they allow you to manually add a Community to post to. So that's what I'm using until that breaks too -___-; Any way; if I finish this I'll update, but right now I'm posting what I have.

And the Communities not loading has been fixed!
Madame Vastra

Percy & Daphne Cassius & Maria

So since I drew William for his birthday [April 13TH], here are the twins on theirs. And also my first ever attempt to draw Maria. I'm really fond of these two, and though I don't think on this AU much now, I would think of them having little adventures. I am also proud that I drew these on the same page and didn't have to resize either of them or move them around~

The teacups are based on Sally Webster's mugs from "Coronation Street". I will post a screenshot of them when I find an episode with a good shot of them, but I've always been fond of them since Rosie was still dating Jason. The Country Store bulk & health food store in Greenwood has a little teapot decorated like them too. You can kind of see them in this .GIF post & this .GIF post, but only briefly. [I actually had this post ready at 10:00PM-ish, but have been looking for a screenshot of them :/ ]

And Daphne's dress is based-off the one here. And her shoes are based-off these.

The tea drinking scene is because I was thinking of this art I drew for Helen years ago.

Magnificent Midnight-Blue Evening Gown

These are from mid-2011 from when the party distraction Storylet was released. The story behind how Lorel got this dress is that she woke-up in it after a night of prowling (drinking Black Wings Absinthe). But these were painted in ArtRage back when I think it's called "A Polite Invitation" was first released and on Twitter several of us were playing it out over about the span of a week. Lorel wasn't sure about attending, but wanted to wear the Magnificent Midnight-Blue Evening Gown, and then Cécile Béringer came in through one of #27c bedroom's windows and did Lorel's hair & put lipstick on her [Things happened with other players though that made me too disgruntled to continue to play Lorel going to the party, but here is what she was wearing during the party off-screen]. I originally wanted to have Lorel wear her long hair wig (made from her own hair back when she first cut it short on her preparations for London), but the short hair with the dress & lipstick added more ridiculousness & was what Cécile worked with.

And a version without lipstick:

And a little doodle too:

---

I cannot find the large size of the old Magnificent Midnight-Blue Evening Gown in-game image, so I edited one from the default old gown image to try to show what it looked like in-game:

---

EDIT---
And you can see the chain for the vial that had Red Honey/Gaoler's Honey in it. Lorel would wear this all the time, because it was such a risky thing to have traces of. I played The Chambers Of The Heart until it kicked me out, meaning Lorel got the maximum One who has Indulged in Unknown Pleasures Quality and was fairly traumatised by the experience. Leading to her ceasing use of Prisoner's Honey until helped with it by a held hand. And then she stopped again after being honey-mazed from later Nemesis stuff.

EDIT---
I edited her hair in OpenCanvas 3.03e to remove the hairclips & lace bit.

2010 hunting The Jack-of-Smiles

Here is a drawing I drew of Lorel in 2010 from when I first played The Jack-of-Smiles storyline. The Watchmaker's Hill one. I found a Draft this week in my GMail of something I wrote of her dealing with a Jack, but nervous about posting it on the ls_cassius Journal. Anyway; Lorel has 10 Annoyance to the Jack-of-Smiles, over 80 Petrified Humnan Hearts, and so many damn Diamonds from this time.
